“PRACTICE OF MARITIME BUSINESS: SHARING EXPERIENCE”

On the 30th of May, 2008 a two-day International Annual Conference “Practice of maritime business: sharing experience” finished its work. It was held in Odessa, Ukraine at the conference hall of the hotel “Odessa”. The Conference gathered more than 100 delegates and speakers from 10 countries: representatives of insurance, survey, shipping and forwarding companies, law firms and banks, etc. The main topic of the Conference was “Arbitration and dispute resolution”.

Inauguration of the Ukrainian MEPA

In Odessa, the city with strong historic and commercial bonds with Greece, the Ukrainian Marine Environment Protection Association - UKRMEPA was established on Monday, 17 December 2007. Prof. Ι. Pupenko, Rector of the Odessa Institute of Postgraduate Education of Senior Managers of Water Transport, Prof. V. Torskiy, Honorary Secretary of the Nautical Institute of Ukraine, V. Lebedev, Expert - Consultant of the Law Firm "International Law Offices", V. Chikanosvkiy, President of the Ukrainian Branch of the International Scientific Academy of Ecology, Human Safety and Environment Protection and A. Sagaydak, CEO of Equinox Ltd, cosigned the Inaugural Declaration of UKRMEPA. Titled "To Save the Seas", the Declaration of Voluntary Commitment of the new Association is based on the principles and philosophy of the Inaugural Declaration of HELMEPA.

The law firm International Law Offices became a contributor of the annual project of the professional investigative edition Doing Business 2009. Doing Business 2009 is a joint publication of the group the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation and Palgrave Macmillan. Doing Business 2009 is the sixth in a series of annual reports investigating the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. The present publication covers data on economies of 118 countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. The publication presents 10 stages of the life of a business.

Publication was timed to the event organized by International Law Offices – the conference Doing Business in Ukraine: Odessa and Odessa region that was held in October of 2008. Creators of the present publication are considerable composite authors of the firm that have done their best to consolidate the whole materials prepared and published in various Ukrainian and foreign editions during 2006-2008.
